Vágod, hogy Kenya hol van? Kenya, Szudán, Kongó, Ruanda és Tanzánia között van egy ország, amit Ugandának hívnak. Lilla most talált munkát egy segélyszervezetnél és a blogon keresztül próbálunk segíteni támogatókat toborozni. Már két ilyen próbálkozásunk volt, talán ez a harmadik megtöri a nagy csendet.
Észak-Ugandában a különböző kisebbségek fegyveres harcot folytatnak egymás ellen. A háború miatt több, mint 1,8 millió ember a saját országán belüli menekültnek számít és menekülttáborban lakik. A menekültek fele 18 év alatti, egy harmada elvesztette mindkét szülőjét és egy tizedüknek semmilyen rokona sincs. A táborok lakói nemzetközi segítség nélkül éheznének. Olyan, mintha a fejlett világ elfeledkezett volna Észak-Ugandáról, pedig itt is majdnem annyi menekült van, mint Darfurban. A legrosszabb az, ami a gyerekekkel történik. Az egyik hadsereg (Lord´s Resistence Army) katonáinak 80%-a elrabolt gyerekekből áll. A konfliktus fennállása óta több, mint 28 ezer gyereket ejtettek fogságba. Védelmet az olyan központok adnak, ahova esténként elsétálnak, ott alszanak, általában a földön és hidegben. Reggel hazamennek, esetleg esznek valamit és mennek iskolába. Az elmúlt húsz év eredménye, hogy több ezer gyerek van, aki születése óta nem töltött egy napot sem békében.

Northern Uganda is subject to armed fighting among ethnic groups. Over 1.8 million people live in IDP (Internally Displaced Persons) camps, half of the them are children below 18yrs. A third of them lost both parents and a 10% are completely orphans with nobody to care for them. These people in the camps would starve without international help. There are no hospitals, no schools. It seems like that the western world has forgotten northern Uganda. Here are almost the same amount of refugees as in Darfur.
The worst things happening to children are kidnaps and the use of them as child soldiers and sex slaves by the Lord´s Resistence Army. Over the course of the conflict, more than 28,000 children were abducted and taken into captivity. It is said that currently almost 80% of the fighters in the LRA are children.
To avoid child abduction about 45,000 children each evening walked from their homes to the near by centers to sleep and rest, most often they could sleep on ground, in morning they are cold, very insecure and rampant incidence of gender based violence. In the morning, the children walk home, perhaps eat something, and than walk to school. Two decades of war have resulted in thousands of children never having known a single day of peace or beauty since birth.
