Arequipa, a fehér város

Ilyen kényelmes buszon Chile óta nem ültünk, lábtartó, TV és pontosan reggel fél hatkor megérkeztünk. Rövid reggeli a buszállomáson és máris kellemes meglepetés ért minket, Peruban eddig a legjobb kenyeret (zsömlét) kaptuk, bár ez is elmarad a la pazi mini bagettől. A szállás lepattant, de van meleg víz és olcsó :)
Arequipa Peru második legnagyobb városa. Fehér vulkanikus kövekből építették a belváros házait, hatalmas mestico templomok és egy külön csoda: a Santa Catalina dominikánus zárda. Utóbbit a XVI. században alapították, az apácáknak fejenként 1-4 fekete rabszolgája volt és a kolostor híres volt a bulikról, amiket a gazdag családok lányai tartottak. A XIX. sz. végén a pápa megunta a dolgot és ideküldte a szigorú Josefa nővért, aki felszabadította a rabszolgákat és teljesen elszigetelt életet követelt a nővérektől. A 70-es években a polgármester úgy döntött, hogy be kell vezetni a vizet és az elektromosságot, és az ehhez szükséges pénzt a turistáktól szedték össze. A városrésznyi nagy kolostor egy része látogatható, terek, utcák hálózata, kék és piros kerengőkkel, nagyon hangulatos. Egy kisebb részen ma 30 apáca él. Ma elmentünk egy külvárosi malomhoz és közelről akartam lefényképezni egy vicuñát, aki betámadott és megpróbált szembeköpni!

The white city of Arequipa
The bus from Cusco to Arequipa was the best since Chile. We have arrived on time at 5:30 am and had breakfast at the terminal. Surprise, surprise, the bread is the best in Peru though the crispy bread of La Paz still rules. We check in to a worn hospedaje that has hot showers and the price is a bargain.
Arequipa is the second largest city of Peru and downtown is mainly build from the white volcanic rocks called sillar. After visiting a couple of churches we hit the main thing, the Santa Catalina monastery. Founded in the 16th century this place was a party place for the nuns who came from good families and had generally one to four black slaves. This scandal was going on for about 300 years when the strict Sister Josefa came along and the parties stopped. In the 1970s the doors opened to the public since the mayor forced the introduction of running water and electricity to the convent and the nuns had no other chance to finance the works. Nowdays, you can visit this city in the city with streets and plazas. Looking into the kitchens and rooms of the nuns is really interesting. Still on one part about 30 nuns continue living. Today we have visited a mill in the suburbs, the only exciting part was when a vicuña wanted to spit on me because I went too close taking a shot. By the way, we do have hundreds of photos just it is pretty impossible to upload them in any of Peru´s internet places. We keep on trying you please be patient :)
